Ukraine improves regulation for wind power projects

On 4 September 2018, the Ukrainian Parliament passed Bill No. 8015 amending certain legislative instruments of Ukraine in relation to the investment appeal of construction of renewable energy facilities (the "Law").

The Law will come into effect on the day after the day on which it is published, after signing by the President of Ukraine.

The Law makes changes to the Ukrainian Law on the Regulation of Urban Planning, in particular, in relation to mandatory appraisal and classification by complexity of wind power projects.

If the Law becomes effective, wind energy projects will:

(1) benefit from a reduced construction complexity which is expected to be downgraded to CC1 offering a shorter and more streamlined process of commencing construction works and commissioning wind power generating facilities; and

(2) enjoy simplified government's appraisal covering environmental impact assessment only.
