Constantin Solyar is Head of the Tax Practice and Co-Head of the Private Clients group. 

 

With more than 20 years of practice, Constantin has developed expertise covering Ukrainian general and special tax regimes as well as both direct and indirect taxes. He advises clients on a variety of international tax matters and, as a Ukrainian lawyer, represents them in administrative and judicial proceedings involving Ukrainian tax authorities.

 

Constantin also advises high-net-worth individuals on the structuring of their inbound and outbound investments.

 

Before joining Asters, Constantin worked for Big4 firms in both Ukraine and Luxembourg.

  • advised Google on the tax-wise structure of acquisition by Motorola Mobility (Google’s subsidiary) of the IT company Viewdle which has its main development centers in Ukraine
  • advised Telenor on various tax matters, including the taxation of dividends distributions, the taxation of Telenor’s Ukrainian representative offices as well as on the tax aspects in relation to Telenor’s 23.8 billion USD transaction with the Alfa Group of Russia involving the merger of assets between the Russian mobile telecom operator VimpelCom and the leading Ukrainian mobile telecom operator Kyivstar G.S.M.
  • advised Molson Coors, one of the world’s largest brewers, on the Ukrainian tax implications pertaining to the multimillion agreement with the Obolon brewery for production, distribution and marketing support of the UK’s beer Carling. He continues providing tax and legal advice in relation to establishment and daily operation of the Molson Coors subsidiary in Ukraine

  • advised a number of foreign and international financial institutions on Ukrainian withholding tax issues, the taxation of surety arrangements and the application of double tax treaties
  • advised STX Europe Group (f.k.a. Aker Shipyards Group) on tax matters in relation to their acquisition of Wadan Yards Okean
