Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition

Asters Law Firm was one of the partners of the National Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition that took place on 10-12 February 2017 at the High Commercial Court of Ukraine in Kyiv.

Alongside with the financial support of the event Anna Tkachova, Associate at Asters and the winner of the National Rounds in 2014, acted as a judge of the competition qualifying rounds and Asters' Counsel Dmytro Shemelin took part in the awarding ceremony.

This year students are considering important issues of international law, such as the delineation of aquifers and the protection of fundamental human rights, including the right to food and water.

The team of the Institute of International Relations (Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv) became the winner of the 22nd National Rounds of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court, while the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy team was the runner up. The International Law Students Association has officially invited both finalists to represent Ukraine at the international rounds to be held on 9-15 April 2017 in Washington D.C.

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world's oldest and largest moot court competition. It is a simulation of a fictional dispute between States before the International Court of Justice, the judicial organ of the United Nations.
