On 25 June 2013 the law firms of Thompson & Knight LLP (Dallas) and Asters (Kyiv) hosted, with the support of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine, a joint video seminar entitled "Algeria and Ukraine: Attracting Investment in Conventional and Unconventional Plays". The global seminar connected panelists in Dallas, Houston, London, and Kyiv, and a large number of the firms' oil and gas clients.
The panelists included Asters' Senior Partner Armen Khachaturyan, Thompson & Knight's Partners Andrew B. Derman, Andrew Melsheimer, and Hassan Yassine; Dr. Volodymyr Ignaschenko, Advisor to the Minster of the Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, and Yaroslov Voitko, Policy Manager for the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine.
The panelists first discussed investment opportunities in Ukraine and the legal structure of the Ukrainian hydrocarbon market with an emphasis on the regulation of production sharing agreements, incentives to service companies, and pending on-shore and off-shore PSA projects, in particular unconventional oil and gas plays. The other part of the discussion focused on investment opportunities in Algeria and the country's 2013 Hydrocarbon Law, including revisions to attract investment in the exploration and exploitation of conventional and unconventional projects. All presentations were received with great interest and raised numerous questions from the audience.
