Oleksandr Padalka participated in a roundtable dedicated to the recently adopted amendments to the competition laws

Asters partner Oleksandr Padalka participated in a roundtable on "Amendments to Competition Laws: New Approaches in Advertising", held on 4 August 2011 in "Interfax" Information Agency. The event was organized by the International Commercial Chamber Ukraine (ICC Ukraine) and Association for Resistance to Unfair Competition (АRUC) and gathered the representatives of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMC), law firms and Ukrainian business. The participants discussed the recent changes to Ukrainian laws concerning the improvement of the legal regime for protection of economic competition.

During the event the participants were able to learn about the AMC's activities aimed at combating unfair competition, discuss the importance and efficiency of the adopted amendments and assess the anticipated outcome for Ukrainian business. In particular, the amendments fix certain deficiencies in the procedures of review of cases on concentration and concerted practices and enable the AMC to provide undertakings with the special recommendations clarifying the compliance of advertisements with unfair competition laws, as well as to apply more severe sanctions for violation of competition laws and bring such violators to liability.

Oleksandr Padalka, in his speech regarding the directions of further improvement of competition laws, commented: "The adopted changes are very important for Ukrainian business. For now, competition in advertising environment sometimes looks like an ultimate fighting for customers. By using various advertising and marketing techniques, companies often mislead a common consumer. The enacted changes will undoubtedly facilitate establishment of civilized rules of play in the advertising market. However, both in advertising and other areas regulated by the unfair competition protection laws the lawmaking work should continue to improve and form the appropriate level of corporate culture and fair competition".
