Asters successfully defended PrivatBank in UAH 152 mln dispute related to the ownership right over the head office building

Asters defended interests of PrivatBank, Ukraine's largest bank in terms of assets, in a court of appeal in a dispute related to the ownership right over the client's head office building located in Dnipro (Ukraine).

In November 2020, the Commercial Court of Dnipropetrovsk region upheld the claim of the company connected with the bank's former owners and top management. The court annulled the ownership rights of PrivatBank to the office building, acquired 3 months prior to nationalization as a result of foreclosure on a mortgage to repay a loan owed to a person connected to the bank's former owners.

On 25 April, 2022, the Central Commercial Court of Appeal overturned the decision of the court of the first instance, dismissed the plaintiff's claims, thus confirming the ownership right over the building worth UAH 152 mln to be legal.

Asters' litigation team working on the project included Partner Andriy Pozhidayev and Senior Associate Oleksiy Ananiychuk.

Asters is the largest law firm in Ukraine with offices in Kyiv, Washington D.C., London and Brussels. Chambers Europe 2022 recognizes 21 lawyers of Asters – the largest number of the renowned practitioners in a single Ukrainian law firm.
