Asters Speaks at the Conference on Legal Compliance with the UK Bribery Act

Vadym Samoilenko, Partner, and Yaroslav Petrov, Associate, delivered presentations at the Conference on Legal Compliance with the New UK Bribery Act and Other Anti-Corruption Laws, organized by the British Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and American Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Asters. The conference took place at InterContinental Kyiv Hotel, on 25 May 2011.

Over 150 invitees attended the event, including practicing lawyers, judges, government officials, businessmen from Ukraine, Russia, United Kingdom and Georgia.

The Conference focused on the UK Bribery Act that creates the new crime of "Failing to Prevent Bribery", and its extraterritorial application, e.g., in Ukraine to the management of Ukrainian and foreign companies for qualifying actions regarding Ukrainian public officials and private persons. Participants also dwelt upon US anti-corruption laws and new Ukrainian anti-money laundering and anti-corruption legislation.

Yaroslav Petrov chaired the Industry Compliance Models and Practices session, and delivered the presentation "Case Study on Shell's Compliance Program". Vadym Samoilenko shared his experience on advising international clients as to corporate gifts and hospitality with respect to government officials.
