Asters shortlisted in two categories for the FT Innovative Lawyers Awards Europe 2026
Asters has been shortlisted in two categories for the Financial Times (FT) Innovative Lawyers Europe 2026 Awards:
- Innovative Lawyers in AI, Digital Regulation and Technology: Asters and Ukraine's national cybersecurity reform. Asters’ team, including Partner Yuriy Kotliarov, Counsel Serhiy Tsyba and Associate Viktoria Kurylina, played a leading role in developing Ukraine’s new cybersecurity legal framework. They succeeded in delivering a comprehensive, EU-aligned system designed primarily to protect critical infrastructure and state information resources amid ongoing war. The project resulted in the adoption of Law No. 4336-IX in 2025 alongside dozens of implementing acts, which are now fully operational across Ukraine. Designed amidst active military and cyber threats, the framework strengthens national cyber resilience and establishes a unified incident response system as well as providing a long-term legal basis for countering cyber-aggression over the next decade.
- Innovative Lawyers in Responsible Business: 2000+ hours for Ukraine. Asters acted as pro bono legal advisor to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine in the landmark ECHR case Ukraine and the Netherlands v. Russia. The team included Partners Oksana Legka and Oleksandr Volkov, Associates Valeriia Yakimova and Oleksandr Lutsenko. The firm played an important role in building the legal and evidentiary framework, contributing to the Grand Chamber’s July 2025 judgment holding Russia accountable for widespread human rights violations. The case, with potential damages exceeding USD 80 billion, sets a new benchmark for compensation claims and human rights accountability during the war.
The winners in these and other categories will be announced in London on 24 September 2026.
