Asters' Partner Igor Svechkar Elected the Deputy Chairman of Antimonopoly Committee's Advisory Council

Igor Svechkar, Asters partner leading the firm's competition practice, has been elected the Deputy Chairman of the newly-established Public (Advisory) Council with the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMC). The constituent meeting of the Council was held on 25 January 2011 with the total of 38 members representing Ukraine's major industry associations and NGOs securing their places with the Council. Ex-Chairman of the AMC Mr. Oleksandr Zavada was elected the Chairman of the Council.

The Public Council is expected to play an active role in exercising public control over AMC activities, ensuring public influence on definition and implementation of the competition policy in Ukraine as well as coordination of public consultations to be held by the AMC.

The appointment has supplemented to Mr. Svechkar's continued involvement with various competition-related organizations and bodies, such as the Competition Committee of the Ukrainian Bar and the Commission on Competition of ICC Ukraine, where he serves as the Chairman and a Co-Chair, respectively, and also international organizations such as Supporting Competition in CIS Partnership and ICC (Paris) Commission on Competition, where Mr. Svechkar is a member.

Mr. Svechkar has commented on his appointment: "I am honoured to have been elected the Deputy Chairman of the AMC Public Council and look forward to contributing to its efforts to communicate the needs of the public and business to the AMC. Our firm is deeply involved in supporting and advancing various competition legislation and policy initiatives and we will continue with this commitment on the Public Council front as well."
