Asters holds Workshop on Legal Aspects of Joint Implementation Projects under Kyoto Protocol in Ukraine

On 28 October 2010 Asters in conjunction with KyivPost held a workshop to discuss legal aspects of Joint Implementation (JI) projects under Kyoto Protocol in Ukraine. Speakers at the event included Vadym Samoilenko, Asters\' partner, Kateryna Rekiianova, Asters\' associate, Natalia Kushko, Adviser to the Head of the National Environmental Investment Agency of Ukraine (\"NEIA\"), and Mykhailo Chyzhenko, Deputy Head of Kyoto Protocol Flexible Mechanisms Department of NEIA.

The workshop gathered top managers, consultants and in-house lawyers of the companies advising on and realizing JI projects. Participants considered practical aspects of development and implementation of JI projects that offer numerous opportunities and benefits for all parties involved – investors, owners and developers. The audience received valuable analytical information as well as practical advice of Asters\' professionals on structuring legally safe and enduring projects in the country. Mr. Samoilenko and Mrs. Rekiianova outlined general framework of JI projects, peculiarities of Emission Reduction Purchase Agreements, due diligence of objects and documentation of the projects. Mr. Chyzhenko shared NEIA\'s practice on JI projects registration and Ms. Kushko advised on upcoming legislative changes in the area.

We alerted the audience on practical problems that market players face and outlined solutions for some complexities of the law and practice\".
