Asters advises United Company RUSAL, the world's largest aluminium and alumina producer, on Ukrainian merger control law, including obtaining clearance from the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine for the acquisition of 25% plus one share in Norilsk Nickel from ONEXIM Group. As a result of the concentration, UC RUSAL may hold up to 29% plus one share in Norilsk Nickel.
UC RUSAL is the global leader in the aluminum industry, accounting for approximately 12% and 15% of global production of aluminum and alumina respectively. The company was founded in March 2007 through the merger of RUSAL, SUAL, and the alumina assets of Glencore. By closing the transaction, UC RUSAL became a shareholder in one of the world's largest producers of nickel, palladium, copper and platinum. The deal is considered to be a strategic step by the company's toward further increasing UC RUSAL's capabilities as a diversified metals and mining corporation with huge growth potential.
