Sviatoslav Ogreba spoke at the AML/CFT in Digital World Conference 2026

Asters’ Counsel and Head of Forensics Sviatoslav Ogreba spoke at the AML/CFT in Digital World Conference 2026, which addressed current challenges in combating money laundering and terrorist financing in the digital environment.

During the panel session “Challenges in Verification and Identification”, Sviatoslav Ogreba emphasised that customer verification and identification processes remain the cornerstone of effective AML procedures. At the same time, one of the key challenges for the market is the need to maintain a balance between ensuring the security of the financial system and preserving user convenience. Overly complex procedures may adversely affect the customer experience, whilst excessive simplification increases the risk of misuse.

The speaker paid particular attention to the cryptocurrency sector where efforts to enhance user convenience may lead to insufficient application of basic AML safeguards. Such an approach creates additional opportunities for fraud and other violations, increasing the market’s vulnerability and undermining trust in the industry.

Speaking about future trends, the speaker noted that AML in the crypto industry is likely to be accompanied by stricter requirements and increased regulation. At the same time, it is important to avoid excessive regulatory pressure, which could deter the market development and reduce the interest of its participants.
