Oksana Petrus spoke at the IT Ukraine Association webinar "Selecting a country for establishing an R&D centre: important aspects to consider"

Asters' Counsel and Head of IT Industry Group Oksana Petrus spoke at the webinar "Selecting a country for establishing an R&D centre: important aspects to consider", organised jointly with the IT Ukraine Association. She provided insights and current trends based on her own experience of successful projects in Poland, Romania and Mexico as well as her many years of experience in the IT industry.

At the beginning of the presentation, she noted: "Before opening an office in a new country, business owners need to do their homework, namely, determine the main goal of this step, which should be in line with the overall business development strategy. For example, attracting new talent in the local market, reducing the risks of doing business in Ukraine due to the war, attracting investment or relocating a Ukrainian team abroad. The next steps related to the identification of the country, business development, building processes and legal actions depend on the properly defined goal".

Oksana outlined the main aspects to consider when establishing an R&D centre, namely the country's investment climate, legal system, tax regulation, labour laws, etc. She also drew attention to other non-obvious but important aspects that affect business, such as cultural and linguistic peculiarities, political situation in the country, logistics and infrastructure capabilities.
