Asters participated in the I UBA Forum on Family and Inheritance Law

On 13 October 2023, the I Forum on Family and Inheritance Law organised by the Ukrainian Bar Association (UBA) was held in Kyiv. During the event, participants had the opportunity to analyse trends in family and inheritance law, share their expertise and experience in advising on these issues during the war.

The following topics were on the agenda:

  • property division in an international context and registration of a child born abroad
  • specifics of applying the Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction (1980) during martial law
  • guardianship, custody and adoption in wartime
  • inheritance planning and wartime challenges in inheritance matters

Asters' Family and Inheritance law team contributed to the discussion:

  • Partner Talina Kravtsova moderated the session on adoption of children during the war. Participants also heard a report on the forced deportation of children from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia and possible options for their return home
  • Senior Associate Yuriy Neklyaev moderated the session on inheritance planning. Senior Associate Maryna Korniienko joined the discussion and spoke about the peculiarities and challenges of inheritance planning in Ukraine
