Iryna Nazarova Joining Civic Position Non-Government Organization

Iryna Nazarova, Asters' partner, head of its litigation group and a defense attorney admitted to practice with the Kyiv Regional Bar, has joined Civic Position non-government organization lead by Anatoly Grytsenko, MP, and head of the national security and defense committee of the Verkhovna Rada.

On 11 December 2008, the newly-born all-Ukrainian non-government organization held its constituent assembly attended by around 40 delegates from all regions of Ukraine. The assembly adopted its governing bodies and membership of the council to be lead by Mr. Grytsenko. The council membership includes 18 persons among which are Volodymyr Gorbulin, Director of the Institute of National Security Studies, Sergiy Grynevetskiy, MP, first deputy head of the national security and defense committee of the Verkhovna Rada, Pavlo Kozyrev, the mayor of the town of Ukrainka in the Kyiv region and the head of the towns section of the Ukrainian Urban Association, Oleksandr Morozov, MP of the 4th convocation, and Sergiy Rakhmanin, a journalist, editor of the politics section of the "Dzerkalo Tyzhnia" weekly and a member of the Media Ethics Commission, with Iryna Nazarova also elected on the Civic Position council.

The initiators of the organization note that its primary objective is to improve government efficiency and to increase awareness among the Ukrainian public of the importance of participation in the process by each and every member of the society.

According to Mrs. Nazarova, the organization is altogether a non-government one and is developed to consolidate the intellectual potentials to be further utilized in developing a systemic approach to identification of priorities as well as adoption of a unified strategy for tackling specific social challenges. "He who with his feet cuts through the path it follows, will succeed, adds the Partner with Asters. – Being fully aware of this, I believe that the organization initiators have laid a firm foundation for the subsequent development of mighty civic efforts. It is the civic rather than elective nature of the membership as well as the experience and reputation of Anatoly Grytsenko and other members of the organization that have drawn me in."
