Asters supports National Round of Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition

In pursuit of its community program of educational initiatives Asters supported the National Round of Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, which was held on 19-21 February 2010 at the Higher Commercial Court of Ukraine, with Asters' associates and members of the banking, finance and securities team Leonid Antonenko and Anna Poisner serving as judges at the competition.

Out of ten teams participating in the competition, the National University Kyiv-Mohyla Academy (KMA) and the Institute of International Relations of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (KIMO) won, respectively, the first and the second places and the status of the National Runner-Up Teams of the 15th National Round of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, thus gaining the right to represent Ukraine in 2010 (51th) International Rounds of the Jessup Competition to be held in Washington DC on March 21-27, 2010.

Besides, the KIMO team was awarded for the Best Written Memorials, and team member Kateryna Busol received The Best Orator award. Asters is proud to employ Oleksandr Ioffe, another KIMO team member, who also won the 2008 Asters Law Student Competition. On 28 February 2010 Asters welcomed all members of the KIMO team at its offices to enable successful preparation of the students for their participation at the International Round of the Jessup Competition in Washington DC.

The Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the oldest, the biggest and the most prestigious competition for law students in the world. Founded in 1959 as an international law advocacy competition, it has been attracting every year almost 2,000 students from more than 500 law schools from more than 80 countries participating in the Competition. The competition is a simulation of a fictional dispute between countries before the International Court of Justice. It is organized by the International Law Students Association.
