Asters is one of the world's leading arbitration law firms according to GAR100 2023

Asters has been recognised by GAR100 2023 as one of the world's leading international arbitration law firms for 5 consecutive years.

Asters' International Arbitration practice has achieved remarkable results in representing Ukraine in several cases in cooperation with Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan (UK). The ranking highlights that the firm helped defend a USD 3 billion claim in the English courts over its default on Eurobonds held by Russia.

The ranking also commends the achievements of the pairing law firms representing Ukrainian banking institutions, namely they:

  • secured a USD 1.1 billion award for Oschadbank in 2018 in an investment treaty claim against Russia over the loss of its banking operations in Crimea
  • helped PrivatBank defeat an LCIA claim concerning the “bail-in” of USD 595 million in loans to the bank during its nationalisation in 2016
  • advising PrivatBank in a USD 1 billion treaty claim against Russia over its Crimean operations

Two Asters' Arbitration specialists, Co-Managing Partner Serhii Sviriba and Partner Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi, have been recommended for the 15th consecutive year. Markiyan Kliuchkovskyi is also mentioned for his contribution as a member of the working group to develop the legal mechanism to compensate for the damage caused by Russia's war against Ukraine. The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution in late 2022 recognising the need for such a mechanism. Counsel Oleksandr Volkov receives positive client's feedback for providing “important assistance for delicate matters”.
