Oleksiy Didkovskiy Speaks at the V Annual Legal Forum "Development of the Legal Services Market in Ukraine - 2009"

On 20 February 2009, Oleksiy Didkovskiy, Managing Partner of Asters Law Firm, made a presentation at the V Annual Legal Forum "Development of Legal Services Market in Ukraine -2009" hosted by the Ukrainian Bar Association.

The discussion session attended by Mr. Didkovskiy, entitled "The Legal Business in 2009: Survival or Development?", focused on discussions of the trends, projections, and alternatives in the development of the legal services market in 2009, as well as on the models for law firm resources management in the overall economic slump aimed at achieving a positive economic effect. Other panels at the Forum discussed the issues of successful partnership models, the specifics of client relations, and risk management in private legal business.

In his presentation "To be or not to be: decisions to be made by a law firm to move into 2010 on the rise", Mr. Didkovskiy tackled the foundations of law firm development, emphasizing that each law firm has to take a weighted approach in selecting and using its competitive advantages, size up market development and the level of unmet demand coming from existing and potential clients, and structure its business by segments accordingly. Factoring all these in, each market player should make the proper choice and develop a custom-made development strategy. And should the firm's advantage estimates be correct based on its resources and business capabilities, the strategy so selected would ensure moving into 2010 on the rise.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Ukrainian Bar Association Legal Forum gathers lawyers from leading law firms and provides an opportunity for the exchange of opinions on the issues of the legal business management and development in Ukraine. This year, over a hundred lawyers from almost all regions of Ukraine were in attendance at the Forum, among them being partners and founders of a number of leading law firms, privately practicing lawyers, legal counsel to large corporations, and partners in law firms from Russia, Belorus, and the UK. The Forum's agenda was discussed through the prism of the global financial crisis and its national fallout.
