Asters hosted NBNU Business Breakfast "The National Projects – from idea to implementation"

On 9 November 2010, Asters hosted the Nordic Business Network Ukraine's (NBNU) Business Breakfast devoted to National Projects of Ukraine - one of the most recent and promising initiatives of the Ukrainian government. The recently created NBNU acts as a platform for exchanging ideas among representatives of Nordic business, political, and diplomatic communities in Ukraine with the purpose of supporting and encouraging Ukraine's democratic and economic reform, as well as promoting investment into Ukraine.

In his welcome introduction Asters' senior partner Armen Khachaturyan briefed the guests on Asters' legal practices and capabilities and its social responsibility projects, including Art Asters. In particular he described Asters' active involvement in a number of legislative initiatives, including the National Projects, and its advisory support of the State Agency for National Projects.

The NBNU's coordinator Eduard Terpytskyi in his greeting comments thanked Asters for acting as host of one of the first NBNU's networking events and expressed hope that it will be both educational and enjoyable by all the guests. He also introduced an event's key speaker Sergiy Yevtushenko, the Head of the State Agency for National Projects.

In his presentation Mr. Yevtushenko described the concept of the National Projects, namely:

  • LNG terminal
  • Affordable Housing
  • Clean Water
  • Clean City
  • Energy of Nature
  • Air Express
  • New Life
  • Open World
  • City of Future
  • Olympic Hope 2022
  • Danube Corridor.

Mr. Yevtushenko told the audience about the planned cost and timing for their implementation. The program foresees creation of the project company initially owned by the state for each National Project, preparation of the feasibility study, receipt of necessary regulatory permits and licenses, including land allocation and construction permits, and finally admitting foreign and national investors in the project on a competitive basis.

Mr.Yevtushenko's presentation was very well received by the audience and led to an active question and answer session and discussion among many guests, including the Ambassador of Norway to Ukraine Mr. Olav Berstad, representatives from the Royal Danish Embassy, as well as representatives of Nordic and Ukrainian businesses.
